The MAX CAMmunicator DECEMBER 2017

DECEMBER 2017

Welcome!

CWho is Santa's favourite singer? Elf-is Presley! HAHAHA!

Here we are again, another year nearly over and the festive season is upon us.

We have had a big year, Angela and Aliesha both welcoming two beautiful children into their families, Daniel becoming apart of our team and Karlie returning to work after having her third child. Bring on the New Year!

But, 2017 is nearly over with only the best bits to go. From all of us at Maxwell & Cameron, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Please stay safe where ever you are for your end of year partying and we will see you all next year.

Even though it's the festive season, the tax office is still working on getting their fair share of taxes from us all, and things that have made the (tax accountants) headlines this year are:

Limiting deductions for rental property owners - apparently anyone who owns a rental property is wealthy and the tax office can get more tax out of them. Deductions for travel to rental properties are being removed and deductions for equipment used in rental properties are being limited. We have a link to some tax office tips on deductions for rental property owners in our newsletter this quarter.

Changes to superannuation - people who are still working but drawing down their superannuation are apparently wealthy also, so the government has changed the rules from 1 July 2017 so they can get more money in taxes from some of these people. It's still worth having you money in super once you reach or are close to retirement age, but you'll just have a little bit less to spend on yourselves now. If anyone is interested in hearing about these changes (if you don't already know), give us a call in the new year.

There's always plenty more changes each year and we'll keep you up to date as they come along.

We'll be back in the office on 8 January 2018 so see you next year??

AUSTRALIAN TAXATION OFFICE CHRISTMAS CLOSURE!

This year the Australian Taxation Office will close from 12pm Friday 22nd December 2017 and re-open 8am Tuesday 2 January 2018.

Remember November Monthly Activity Statements are due on 21 December 2017.

Any returns or activity statements lodged after 7 December 2017 may not be finalised until 2 January 2018.

GOODBYE ANGELA!

When we close for Christmas this year, unfortunately we will be saying goodbye to Angela Jamieson.

Although Angela has only been working with us for just over a year, we are sad to see her leave but wish her all the best in the future.

Kind Regards

The Team
