$20,000 IMMEDIATE WRITE-OFF FOR SMALL BUSINESS

The $20,000 immediate write off for small business has been extended to 30 June 2018.

For assets that cost less than $20,000 and were purchased between 7:30pm on 12 May 2015 to 30 June 2018 can be used as a deduction whether the item is new or second hand, but the item must be used and/or installed by this date.

MEDICARE LEVY

The Medicare Levy Low-Income thresholds for singles, families, seniors and pensioners will increase from the 2016-17 financial year.

The new thresholds are as follows:

Singles - $21,655
Families - $36,541 plus $3,356 for each dependent child or student
Single Seniors & Pensioners - $34,244
Family Seniors & Pensioners - $47,670 plus $3,356 for each dependent child or student

AUSTRALIAN TAXATION OFFICE SCAMS

Although we may have already put this in one of our previous newsletters, scams from people claiming to be from the Australian Taxation Office seem to be on the rise.

Recently we heard of a person receiving a call from someone claiming to be from the Australian Taxation Office advising there was an outstanding debt and if it wasn't paid within a certain time frame there would be a warrant for their arrest.

Even though the Australian Taxation Office may be hard to deal with sometimes they will never call and harass you. 

If you are ever unsure if a call you are receiving is legitimate, ask for the details to call them back and give us a call and we will be able to check this out for you.
