Changes to the Net Medical Expenses Offset in your 2014 ITR

ATO to gradually phase out Paper Activity Statements

There are growing expectations for services to be delivered electronically. As part of the ATO's move to more online services, from 1 July 2014 once an Activity Statement is lodged through an electronic channel the ATO will no longer issue paper Activity Statements.

Some clients are excluded from this change

The ATO will be excluding clients whose Activity Statements are consistently lodged by paper for monthly periods and electronically for quarterly periods. In these cases, you will still receive the paper Activity Statements to support this lodgement pattern. You will need to have your Activity Statement lodgements up to date to be excluded from the change.

In late June 2014 the ATO will run a lodgement report and email us a list of clients who will continue to receive the paper activity statements.

Moving to electronic lodgement

The ATO recommends clients consider lodging monthly Activity Statements electronically. They will be reviewing those who continue to receive paper Activity Statements to determine an appropriate time for all Activity Statements to be issued electronically.

The ATO may be contacting some of you over the next few months to discuss moving to electronic lodgements. If you wish to move to electronic lodgement for your monthly Activity Statements, you will need to apply for an Auskey which can be done online.  Click here for more information.
